BALLY'S

FRIENDLINESS RATING: C
I’ve never had a problem with employees at Bally’s; they’re nice enough--not overly friendly, but not rude either. A fair mix of both.

GAMBLING RATING: C

Bally’s does cater to a “higher clientele” of gamblers. You’ll find slots, but mainly in the higher denominations. Be sure to ask for a free coupon book at the slot club desk. You can redeem coupons for a free glass of wine and other goodies.

ATMOSPHERE: C
Bally’s is a Continental-style casino: elegant fixtures, but not so stiff that you’ll feel uncomfortable. The small things show the casino’s age: older slots, worn felt on the card tables, but all in all, a fine (if nondescript) place to play. Bally's is in dire need of a renovation both inside and out, I'm afraid.

FOOD:
Bally’s “Big Kitchen Buffet” and champagne brunch are among Vegas’ most famous. Expect to pay a hefty price, though. On our last visit, the brunch was $49 per person and the regular buffet $20 per person.

OTHER:

Bally’s has a modest little shopping arcade with specialty shops and cool marble floors (a great place to beat the heat). Their wedding chapel is one of the most popular in town. Make sure you have some change when you use the restrooms near the casino--you’re expected to tip the towel girls. Make sure you stop by at night and watch the free “light show,” as the entryway to the casino has a lovely light ballet that takes place continuously. There is also a free monorail that connects Bally’s with the MGM Grand; take advantage of the quick ride. Much of the movie "Honeymoon in Vegas" (starring Nicolas Cage) was filmed here.
