FRIENDLINESS
RATING: A-
Everyone's nice enough, but most of the dealers have no personality.
Plus, if you're not a high roller, nobody really wants to have
much to do with you, though I have noticed a totally positive
change in attitude from the employees staffing the Gold Chamber
Player's Card booth.
EFFICIENCY RATING: D
The Luxor has some serious problems with crowd control, especially
with their check-in desk. And if you want to check out, make sure
you get down to the desk at least an hour before your desired
departure time. It takes FOREVER and a day. I have been a guest
at this hotel numerous times in the last 4 years, and their efficiency
has not improved.
GAMBLING RATING: C
Just average. Their slot club is nothing special; their table
games and dealers are so/so. The LuXor has a reputation for having
"tight" machines, though I find that I can usually play forever
on quarter machines (not nickels or dollars).
ROOM RATING: B+
Huge rooms for around $60, with a very tasteful Egyptian decor.
The Pyramid rooms don't have tubs, only showers, but who cares?
A great deal for a nice room. I recently stayed in the new tower,
and I was not impressed. The tower rooms are VERY INCONVENIENT
if you prefer self-parking. If you stay in the tower, you must
valet or you will be walking miles and miles. The tower rooms
are more tasteful in decor and are a bit more "posh," but I prefer
the pyramid for several reasons. Convenience is the first--I don't
mind valet parking at night, but I usually drive my car a lot
and it's a pain to have to wait for the valet attendants (which
are painfully slow at the LuXor) every time I want to drive somewhere.
Second, the air conditioning units stink. I can't stand coming
to the desert and then not being able to sleep because it's too
hot in my room! Another bit of advice: do NOT stay in a Parlour
Suite. We were "upgraded" upon our arrival and it was awful. The
room was terribly cramped with a bed that folded down out of the
wall. It was the MOST uncomfortable room I've ever stayed in.
The refrigerator and wet bar was nice, but it was so cramped that
you couldn't stand up between the bed and the bar. And there was
a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom....but for ONE person. Who the heck
thought of that? Jacuzzi tubs, in my opinion, should always be
made for TWO.
ATMOSPHERE: B-
Pretty smoky and loud, usually crammed with guests, mainly 25-30
year olds. Another good place for well-behaved children. The new
renovations are great--a beautiful new shopping gallery and arcade,
and a new food court (that's great for convenient snacks). The
LuXor also has consistently good, solid lounge entertainment (on
par with the wonderful performers at Mandalay Bay), which is more
than I can say for other Vegas casinos.
FOOD: C
Their buffet is a hit-or-miss. Sometimes it's really good; other
times it's pretty rotten. Be sure to check the menu before descending
on the escalator into the "eating pit." The price has gone up
(about $12 for dinner) but the quality remains the same. The Pyramid
Coffee Shop has awful service, but the food (particularly the
sandwiches) are pretty yummy and cheap. And the atmosphere is
cool too. Again, the food court is nice, but don't eat there--it's
stuff you could have at home (McDonald's, Nathans, Swenson's,
Little Caesar's).
OTHER:
Don't waste your money on any of the "attractions." They suck.
Also, the LuXor has a really bad sewage

and
drainage problem, so the property sometimes smells like a toilet.
You may wish to think twice before staying here if you are afraid
of elevators; the "inclinatiors" in the Pyramid are elevators
that run at an angle (and they are enough to make anyone sick
to their stomach, including me)!
