FRIENDLINESS RATING: A
Very nice employees that seem genuinely happy that you are in
their casino. I have never met a rude or unsmiling face at this
place.
GAMBLING RATING: C
Your average mix of casino games, with plenty of tables that
are usually always open. This is a "local's casino," which means
lots and lots of video poker machines and generally loose payouts.
ATMOSPHERE: C
Again, Texas Station rates average. The Texas theme is rather
unimaginative (the decorater probably said "let's see how many
cow skulls and horns we can put in our casino!") and the casino
is always smoky. It's very hard to breathe here and expect the
people on both sides of you to be puffing away. The sports book
is pretty big for an off-Strip casino, and the employees are
friendly.
FOOD:
A Texas Station has won my vote for the Best Buffet in Las Vegas
for the last two years. No buffet compares to this place--for
starters, the service is always impeccable! Try to say that
for other buffets around town! Texas Station's buffet follows
the basic "Rio" principle of buffet design: it has different
themed "stations" with a wide assortment of food. The highlights
from the buffet are the Chili Bar (featuring 8 different types
of chili from Old Buffalo Breath to White Bean and Chicken)
with deep bowls, large spoons, and plenty of crackers and shredded
cheese for topping, and my favorite: the make-your-own fajita
station. The fajitas here are absolutely delicious. You can
choose from beef or chicken and the cook grills them right before
your eyes. They are always fresh and always delicious. The fajita
toppings bar is great too, where you can load your plate with
generous helpings of fresh guacamole and the best pico de gallo
I've ever tasted. The other stations at the buffet are good
as well; the Italian (try the pizza) and Chinese being among
the best. The dessert bar falls victim to the "buffet curse",
however: it is severly lacking in quality and variety.
OTHER:
Texas Station is worth the short drive from the Strip. I go
there at least three times whenever I'm in town, but only to
eat at their buffet. Lunch is a steal at $6.49, and be sure
to check the local papers when you're in town for TS's special
2-for-1 buffet coupons. I come here for the food, and I suggest
you do too.
