FRIENDLINESS RATING: A+
Everyone bends over backwards to make you happy, from the cashiers
to the bellhops. The dealers are friendly and eager to please;
a real cut above any other casino in Las Vegas. Treasure Island
gets my vote as the friendliest casino in Las Vegas. The folks
over at the Mirage could learn a thing or two from these guys!
EFFICIENCY RATING: C
Like I said, everyone bends over backwards to make guests happy,
but we've had nothing but problems with getting our rooms at
Treasure Island. We are always told that our rooms are "not
ready," even though check-in time is 3 p.m. On our last visit,
we were told that our room would be ready at 3. It wasn't. They
said come back at 4. We did. Our room wasn't ready. We finally
checked in at 6. This has happened to others are well (I've
received many letters on this subject), and all too often. And
if you need something brought up to your room (we always need
an ironing board and iron) make sure you request them at least
an hour before you need them! I kid you not--these folks are
slow! However, I have seen a vast improvement in the valet parking
service over the past 6 months. And the check-in desk is much
more efficient.
GAMBLING RATING: A
A fun place to play, Treasure Island offers all sorts of neat
games. They even have the old card game War! TI also has a nice
assortment of quarter slot machines. And the dealers are super,
super nice! They make it (almost) fun to lose your money! The
casino's decor is particularly inviting: gold-tipped skeletons,
buried "treasure," old maps, exposed "forts" with cannons...very
themed and cool inside. Probably my favorite casino in terms
of decor. Definitely worth a visit! (And check out the awesome
arcade, complete with talking, bickering pirate skeletons--kids
love it, but adults will too)!
ROOM RATING: A
We've stayed in both the regular rooms and the jacuzzi suites,
and the rooms are nice but modest (when compared to the other
jacuzzi suites/rooms in Las Vegas and other gambling towns).
During our last visit (July 1999) the hotel was undergoing major
renovations to all of its guest rooms and common areas. We had
the pleasure of staying in both an old and a newly renovated
suite, and man, what a difference! In the old suites I used
to complain about how all of the fixtures (even the SOAP dishes)
were glued down! In the renovated rooms, thankfully, nothing
is glued down. Everything from the wallpaper to the carpet is
brand-new with mild earth tone hues. The jacuzzi suites now
have marbled bathrooms, which are beautiful. This is a nice
hotel and a great place to stay with your family.
ATMOSPHERE: A
Lots of families, awesome pirate battle in front of the casino,
great arcade for the kids. I would recommend this place for
people traveling with families. Let me rephrase that: if you
have well-behaved children, stay here. If you have hellions,
go park yourself at Circus-Circus. The casino's decor is my
favorite in Las Vegas. Gold-adorned pirate skeletons look down
over the casino, drink it up at the bar, and hide their booty
throughout the property's little nooks and crannies. Make sure
you check out the carpet--it's really cute! The theme at TI
is carried out very well (and even extends into the buffet area).
FOOD: C
Passable dinner buffet with shrimp and prime rib and spaghetti
for about $9 a person. Nothing fancy, and nearly overpriced.
The shrimp have, on occasion, been smushy and not-so-fresh.
Offers simple, easily-prepared foods that kids will probably
like (spaghetti and meatballs, turkey sandwiches); icky, cookie-cutter
desserts. There are too many good buffets around town to blow
money here (try the gourmet Bellagio buffet or the crowd-pleasing
tex mex varities at the Texas Station buffet instead).
